SFU Galleries has partnered with ISEA 2015 to present keynote speaker Sara Diamond. Diamond, an SFU alumna, is an artist in the three-part exhibition Through a Window: Visual Art and SFU 1965-2015. The Audain Gallery will be open from Friday August 14 to Monday August 18, 12-5pm. Visit http://www.mailoutinteractive.com/Industry/Redirect.aspx?u=1230748&q=899347921&lm=73290424&r=704143&qz=caa5398c8e3ab680b3b3ba9e498bf952 for registration and schedule details.

Under the title 'Action Agenda: Vancouver's Prescient Media Arts,' Diamond will address the ecology and development of early media art and activism in Vancouver. Beginning in the 1960s, Vancouver's hyperactive media art scene was a hotbed of experimentation, collaboration, technical play and radical engagement. Contributions to the scene included feminist collectives, artists' cable television, artist-run media arts centres, university labs and programs, electronic art exhibitions and more. This talk will excavate formations, institutions, actions and activism and point to their relevance in our complex times.

Dr. Sara Diamond is the President of OCAD University and SFU alumna. She is an appointee of the Order of Ontario and the Royal Canadian Society of Artists, and a recipient of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal for service to Canada. She is the winner of the 2013 Grand NCE Digital Media Pioneer Award. Diamond was the Artistic Director of Media and Visual Art and Director of Research at the Banff Centre, where she created the Banff New Media Institute (BNMI) in 1995.

Diamond's co-publication with Sarah Cook, 'Euphoria & Dystopia: The Banff New Media Dialogues' addresses the first wave of digital media. Her research, art and design practice is focused on data visualization, wearable technology and mobile media.
